In the world of social media, it is important to remember that it is a business.

While the platform may be a place for individuals to connect and share, the priority is to take care of its users.

Without happy customers, no business would be successful. This applies especially to social media.

Purpose of a Business

A business has two purposes.

1. To serve the public

This is the more important of the two. When a business is started, this must be the only concern the owner has.

A platform has to take care of its users. Nothing else matters.

2. To make a profit

This is the less important of the two. In fact, this should be the furthest thing from the owner's mind.

Of course, the owner of a social media platform wants to make a profit, because there are bills to be paid. But this should never be the priority.

Let's put it this way.

If a platform does everything in its power to take care of its users, and has happy users, the profits will automatically come.

On the other hand, if profits are given more priority than serving the public, there will be no profits, and consequently, no more social media platform.

A Business owner must have Passion

These principles apply to any type of business, and not just social media.

For example, did you know there are bloggers out there who have a net worth in excess of $30 million?

What is even more amazing is, these people never intended to make a dime when they started out. What they did was done out of passion. They love what they do.

Here's something very interesting. When Steve Jobs created Apple, he never did it for the money. It was all about passion. Some claim he never intended to make a dime when he built one of the most successful companies in the world.

Social media is the most wonderful thing ever invented. It should be a place where users look forward to going each day.

For this reason, platforms must have that passion. If they do, the users will see it. They will know the platform has their best interests at heart, and this will make them very happy.
