  • Always add a pinch of salt to your oatmeal. It makes all the difference for bringing out the flavor.
  • Don't use instant. Use regular oatmeal. The name brand has gotten a little expensive. However, the generic brand has the exact same ingredient: prepared rolled oats, and there is a huge difference in the price.
  • Prepare it on your stove top. The one I recommend is the quick oats. It only takes about 5 minutes to cook, and it tastes better.
  • Add a tablespoon of butter, two tablespoons of sugar and a little cinnamon. You can also add a little allspice and clove.
  • Raisins in your oatmeal? Delicious!
  • How about adding cranberries to your oatmeal? This is So Fine!
  • Sometimes, I cook the oatmeal, add a little butter to it, and then pour in a packet of flavored instant oatmeal. My favorite instant oatmeal is the raisin and walnut. In this case, using the instant is OK because you are still using the regular oatmeal as the main course.
  • How about adding a scooop of whipped cream on the top. Delicious!
  • Sometimes, I have the desire to pour a little coffee in a bowl of oatmeal before eating it. This is pretty good.
  • Any fruit will do nicely in a bowl of oatmeal. You can add strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, bananas, apples, peaches, mango, or pears. I've even added honeydew melon. This is your oatmeal. You can't mess it up. Anything goes!
  • Add a little honey or maple syrup to your oatmeal.
  • You can go wild with spices: cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, clove, allspice, etc.
  • How about some chopped nuts? Pecans, almonds, walnuts: Anything goes.
  • I've even heard of people adding vegatables to their oatmeal. Sweet potatoes, pumpkin and beets are great to add to oatmeal, but it is recommended to add them after they've been cooked and chopped or pureed. I haven't tried this yet, but I intend to.
  • How about adding a little shaved dark chocolate to your oatmeal

There are many other variations. I can go on and on. You are limited only by your imagination. Try some of these, and you will quickly discover that oatmeal is not only healthy. It is also delicious?
