Hank Stram: The Legendary Coach

Hank Stram, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and former head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, is known for his disciplined and detail-oriented approach to the game. Under Stram's leadership, the Chiefs achieved great success, winning three AFL championships and a Super Bowl. Stram was known for his emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and most important, his rules and regulations for his players.

For example, Stram did not allow facial hair. He also required his players to wear sport coats and standard dress pants on game days. However, Stram also allowed players to express themselves through their clothing, such as their shoes or shirts. When asked, "Why?" by the media, his response was, "Because I told them to!"

The Unconventional Travis Kelsey

From his signature "Fruit Punch" celebration to his memorable soundbites, display of affection with Taylor Swift, to shoving Andy Reid on the sidelines, Kelsey has established himself as a fan favorite, as well as a wild man. But would these antics have worked with Hank Stram's coaching principles?

More important, would Kelsey have been able to survive under Hank Stram?

Could Kelsey Adapt?

Yes he could have, but it would't have been easy. Fans have to remember, Hank Stram was a brilliant coach. Some of his players, current hall of fame members, surely were capable of antics, although not in line with today's standards. But Kelsey's versatility and determination could have proven that he has what it takes to survive under different coaching philosophies.

You have to remember, Stram was one of the most influential people in the old NFL merger in 1970, when the old AFL equaled the task of the more seasoned NFL. Stram could have handled Travis Kelsey. Although it wouldn't have been easy, or very pretty, Stram would have been just the coach to pull it off.

Conclusion

While it is impossible to know whether Kelsey could have played for Stram, the possibility of their working together would have been something to see. It is through the combined efforts of players and coaches that memorable moments in football history are made, and a Kelsey-Stram partnership could have added yet another chapter to that legacy, as well as the Dynasty of the Kansas City Chiefs.
