Social media has a dark side. Any deranged person can damage the reputation of another person. Sadly, many people believe what they see. This is horrible, the worst social media nightmare, and something SurfSideSafe will not tolerate. We have made a committment to protect our users against this. First, you will find out what we do to protect our users. Second, you will see how we do it. We want you to feel safe here, and we will do everything possible to make sure you do!

My Inspiration for this Article

In actuality, what inspired me to write this article was, of all things, a Dhar Mann video entitled, WAITER RUINS FAMILY'S LIFE For Small TIP. It's an excellent video. But that's no surprise, because most of Dhar Mann's videos are quickly becoming classics. But this particular video made me think.

In the video, a man who was struggling financially took his wife and son out to dinner. He left the waiter a $5 tip because it was all he could afford. The waiter made a nasty scene in the restaurant. Then, the man was interviewing for a management position, and the interview was interupted by one of the employees of the company, encouraging the person giving the interview to watch a video posted on social media, of a whining, screaming waiter who claimed that the man gave him no tip at all. Needless to say, he didn't get the job, and couldn't find a job any where else. But, as in all Dhar Mann videos, there was a happy ending.

Unfortunately, real life situations don't always have happy endings. That's why we take this so seriously, and will do every thing possible to make sure no one will hurt you by posting something negative about you, which would probably be a lie anyway.

We Got You Covered

When posts are removed from SurfSideSafe, they are gone forever. I'll bet this is the only social media platform that can say this truthfully.

If you ever become a member of SurfSideSafe, we will protect you in every way possible from the crazy people in the world who think they have the power to alter your destiny.

Privacy, protection and safety is something we take very seriously. Let someone try to exploit you, and see us come to your defense. But let's hope this never happens.

But if it does, We Got You Covered

What we will Do

The second we are notified of a post by someone that is defamatory, and damaging to a user's character, we look at it very closely.

If there is the slightest, or even the remotest chance this post could cause damage to one's reputation, we will remove it, immediately! We won't even think about it further! And, we will do it with no questions asked.

A user's character and reputation is something we cannot take chances with. With even an outside chance of a post being damaging to a user, it is GONE! So are the comments, likes, shares, and media files. It is completely removed from our servers, and no one will ever see it again.

But how do we know to do this? That's what we'll talk about next.

How we will Do It

Actually, we don't do anything until we hear from the user. When someone believes a post is damaging to their character and reputation, they can notify us immediately, on the fly.

At the bottom of every post, except for your posts when you are logged in, and the profile picture changes, you will see an alert icon. It is to the right of the arrow in this image.

There is a message that appears when you hover over this icon.

Now the user is ready to report the post to us. This is very easy and only takes a few minutes. Click on the alert icon. You will be taken to a page that looks like the following image.

You will be asked one time if this is really what you want to do. Clicking on NO will take you back to the previous page. Clicking on YES will open the form that will notify us.

There are three very important things we want you to know.

First, this form will send a message, not only to the SurfSideSafe Administrators, but to the owners of SurfSideSafe.

Second, once the message is received, it will be given top priority, and will be dealt with immediately.

Third, be sure to read the message that appears at the top of the form.

Sometimes, people get angry about some of the things they see on social media. Perfect examples are: People get made because someone cheers for a different college football team in a bitter rivalry. Or, people get mad because someone votes for a candidate in an election who they don't like. Or, people get angry at people for having certain beliefs. While it's normal to get angry about this, understand that the people who post are not necessarily directing their posts towards you. If you don't like to see posts that make you mad this way, a better alternative is to flag the post. It will remain, but you will never see it again. Other people may not get as angry, and just take it with a grain of salt.

On the other hand, here are a few more examples that are more serious. One: a person, who is basically a good person, is stopped by a police officer for a minor traffic violation, and someone videos your meeting with him. Two: someone is having a night out on the town and sitting at a table with friends having a few drinks. Someone videos this. I can go on and on, but the thought of this just makes me sick. Decent people don't do things like this. However, there are sick and mentally deranged people out there who will. And when people see what they've posted, natural instincts tell them to believe what they see is true, even though it is not.

The bottom line is, if this ever happens to someone, the most important thing for them to do is report it to us immediately. If we believe there is as little as a one percent probability that a post is damaging to a user, it will be removed immediately. We are very protective of our users, and we don't take any chances with their lives.

Finally, after the form is submitted, this is where the user is taken.

All that's left at this point is for the user to become as distant as possible from the other user who created the post.

Incidentally, we save a screenshot image of the post, just in case you ever need it. It's just an image file. It is kept in a secure location, and it is not on any computer or server, which means, it cannot be assessed on the internet, because it is not there. It is officially, gone forever. It's on a thumb drive and locked in a safe. So, as far as it being a piece of content, it is useless. The only two people who could see it are the user who is the victim, if he or she requests it, and the owner of SurfSideSafe, who will be the one sending it.

Conclusion

We have been telling people all along that our number one concern is the safety of our users. Now you know we take this very seriously.

If you ever become a member of SurfSideSafe, we will protect you in every way possible.

I hope this article has helped you.
