Hey there! Ever felt like everyone on social media is perfect? Like they have the coolest clothes, the most fun friends, and never mess up? Well, guess what? This is not always true! Being yourself online is way cooler and can actually help you make more friends. And we will show you with 3 heartwarming stories!

Be Yourself Online: Why Being Real Rocks on Social Media

Why Being Real is the Best

Imagine trying to pretend you're someone you're not all the time. It would be super tiring, right?

Well, let me tell you something. This doesn't work. And face it! We've all been there one time or another.

Being yourself is way more fun and relaxing. Plus, people can tell when you're fake. When you're real, people can relate to you and want to be friends.

Here are three examples of how being real is better than being fake.

Alex Comes Out of her Shell

Alex was very shy and didn't post much online.

But one day, she decided to share a funny video of her best friend - Her Yorkshire Terrier.

People loved it! She got tons of likes and comments, and it helped her feel more confident.

From this point on, Alex decided to post things that interest her, thinking that if they interest her, they would interest others. After all, what's not to like about a cute dog?

Joe Has a Close Call

Joe was occasionally going to social media to, pretty much, see what was happening.

He didn't post a lot, because people didn't respond. When he did post, he may have gotten a few likes, and was lucky to get more than one comment. It bothered him that other posts he saw got over 100 likes, and 30 comments, and his posts didn't.

Then, one day, he got some bad news. The doctor told him that he had cancer. At first, Joe was a wreck. But the next day, he visited the doctor, and was told two things: First, it was in the early stages, and second, with surgery, he could be cured. Joe was relieved.

Joe didn't want to tell anyone about it until he had some good news. Two months later, Joe had the surgery, and the doctor got it all! A few weeks later, after the doctor told him he was cancer free, he posted this very simple text post on social media:

I am happy to say that I am now a cancer survivor!

People loved it! He got almost 300 likes, and 300 comments.

Carlos Has a Dream for his Wife

Finally, there's Carlos. His story is very heartwarming.

Ten years ago, he lost his wife to cancer. She had a dream, which was, to open a homeless shelter and help the people who have no where to go.

On the last anniversary of her death, he posted a photo of the two of them, with the following text message:

10 years ago today, the love of my life went to heaven. She is up there waiting patiently for me to join her. However, she knows this will not happen any time soon. Before she left, she had a dream. Now it is our dream. I am in the process of making our dream a reality. I'm almost there. There is only one more hurdle to overcome. It's going to happen. And when I finally join her, she will be so proud.

People loved it. Carlos got more than 75 likes and 50 comments.

Be Yourself Online: Why Being Real Rocks on Social Media

People like real people. Nobody wants to hang out with a robot. When you're yourself, people can relate to you and want to be your friend.

You'll have more fun. Trying to be someone you're not is tiring. Being yourself is way more fun and relaxing.

You'll make real friends. People who like you for you are the best kind of friends.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the big thing today.

But there is one thing for sure. It will never replace friendship.

Tips for Being Yourself Online

Be honest. Don't pretend to be someone you're not. People can tell when you're faking it.

Share your interests. Talk about the stuff you love, like video games, music, or sports.

Post pictures of yourself. Don't be afraid to show your face. People want to know who you are.

Be kind to others. Everyone makes mistakes. Be nice to people, even if you don't agree with them.

Take breaks. It's okay to step away from social media sometimes. Spend time with your real-life friends and family.

Being yourself online is the best way to make real friends and have fun. So, don't be shy! You were made to shine!
