Oh, how I loved the Temptations! 💗⃝🌕🎶 I came across this old performance from The Ed Sullivan Show, and it brought back so many wonderful memories. Eddie Kendricks had such a beautiful voice. And those dance moves! Does anybody else remember listening to the Temptations?

I loved the Temptations too. And I'm talking about the original Temptations - Paul, Eddie, David, Melvin and Otis + Dennis. They were a little bit before my time, but I've done my research,

Actually, there was another Temptation - Al Bryant. David Ruffin replaced him. But when Al was with them, they didn't have any hits.

When David Ruffin left the Temptations, I was a little worried that they wouldn't be the same. But Dennis Edwards, who replaced David Ruffin, was sensational. They were every bit as good with Dennis Edwards as they were with David Ruffin. I'm not going to say they were necessarily better, because Ruffin was a great singer, but with Dennis, they didn't miss a beat.

Guys, you're going to find out I'm older than I look. But I remember when Paul and Eddie left the Temptations. I knew then they would never be the same again. I can't believe the Temptations are still performing. The few times I've heard them, or saw them in a video, I couldn't help but thing, "These are NOT the Temptations"

Margie, thank you so much for sharing this. You just made my day. What I love about the Temptatations is, they had a sound that no other group had, and never will. And that bass singer, Melvin Franklin, was awesome. What made their sound so unique was, Melvin singing bass, Eddie singing tenor, and the others in between. And don't forget Paul. He was also a great singer, and was very instrumental in their sound.

Sammy hit the nail on the head. I also thought they were 'Greater then Life Itself'. When we were in high school, the 'Mowtown Sound' was at its best, with the Temptations leading the way. A very sad day for me was when I visited Eddie, a few days before he passed from lung cancer. After he passed, I kept in touch with Mrs, Kendricks, Eddie's mother, for about a year. She was one of the sweetest ladies I've ever known.

The young lady sitting on the couch has to be the mother of the child in the cradle. Notice how she's looking at the child, as if she's protecting that child.

The man in the wheel chair is the Father of the child in the cradle, and here's two reason why I think so: First, he's the only man in the picture who is likely to be the Father. Second, if he's a good Father, and I assume he is, he wants to be with his child.

Margie, I can't help noticing the person standing next to the man in the wheelchair, who we have confirmed is the child's Father. I say person, because I can't tell if it's a man or a woman. I have a feeling HE, OR SHE, is a siblling of the Father or the Mother.

No one has said anything about the man sitting at the table, with the bottle of whiskey in front of him. You said there are four generations. The child and the parents, and the other sibling are the last two. The man with the whiskey looks younger than the lady touching her cheek. So, I'd say he's the Grandfather, and she's the Great Grandmother. And I'm going to take a wild guess: They're both on the Mother's side of the Family.

Well done Margie. And since you've been holding down the fort, I'm going to get you off the hook. Here's the colorized version of the picture you shared. It was taken in the fall of 1954. The lady sitting on the sofa, guarding the child, is my Mother, Tree. The man in the wheel chair is my Father, Buddy. He was in the Air Force, stationed at San Bernadino, California. While in the Air Force, he was one of the 57,628 victims of the 1952 polio epidemic, which was the worst outbreak ever. The thing (man or woman?) standing next to my Father is my Mother's SISTER, Vera. The man sitting at the table, drinking his whiskey, is my Mother's Father, and, my Grandfather and best friend, affectionately known as "Pop". The sweet lady with her hand on her cheek is my Mother's Grandmother, Pop's Mother-in-Law, and my Great Grandmother, "Mama Vita". The exact spot where this picture was taken is now Interstate 59, on the Western side of Birmingham, AL. And finally, I believe you know who that is in the cradle.
