Late Saturday night, I was sipping on a little Jim Beam, relaxing and scrolling through Reddit. In the "AskReddit" community, someone asked: “What keeps you going every day?” I answered from the heart.
I told them my wife had a dream — to open a homeless shelter, but she passed before she could make it happen. I shared that I'm building SurfSideSafe in her honor, and if it becomes successful, the money will go into making her dream real.
A stranger read my reply and said something I’ll never forget:
“I just signed up!”
Then they joined SurfSideSafe, sent me a message, a friend request, and told me they were excited to be part of this.
The person's name is Jack. And Jack reminded me that this is working.
People are seeing the heart behind SurfSideSafe. They're feeling it. And they’re joining it.
We’re not just building a social media site — we’re building something that matters.
Let’s keep going. We’re just getting started. 💪

Reply by BillieMax Clements About 19 day(s) ago This is amazing. I've never seen anything on social media like this. For that matter, I've never even seen it on the internet.

Reply by Roger Duncan About 19 day(s) ago This is not good. People who post garbage like this should be banned from social media.
Reply by Mandy DiAngelo About 22 day(s) ago Those liars who are doing this for clickbait have been messing with Hollywood. But this time it's different. They're messing with the Lord, and that's not acceptable.
Reply by Kenneth Cole About 22 day(s) ago Charlie, this is really f@%$ed up! Sorry for my expression, since this is the Pope, but this kind of thing just makes me angry.
Reply by Charlie Mundi About 22 day(s) ago That's OK, Ken. At least you didn't use the Lord's name in vain. I can definitely understand where you're coming from.
Reply by Dixie Rose About 22 day(s) ago This is terrible. That's why I like SurfSideSafe so much. None of this nonsense.
Reply by MaryKate Barton About 22 day(s) ago Now I've seen every thing. It's very hard to believe what some people will do.
Reply by Holly Anders About 22 day(s) ago While the post didn't exactly say that Pope Francis had passed away, one can't help but thinking that is what happened after seeing this post.
Reply by Charlie Mundi About 22 day(s) ago After we saw this, we immediately did a Google search, and the results were entirely different from what was posted.
Reply by Margie Ola About 22 day(s) ago OH, COME ON! Not Pope Francis! This is sick!
Reply by Charlie Mundi About 22 day(s) ago I'm afraid so, Margie. People will do anything to get a click, ever spread lies about such a good man.

I was browsing social media when I saw a post claiming Dennis Rodman had died. My heart sank — until I did a quick Google search and realized it was a lie.
This happens way too often. Social media is flooded with fake celebrity death hoaxes — all for clicks and attention. And the worst part? Millions of people fall for it.
At SurfSideSafe, we believe in truth over clickbait. That’s why we’re calling out these lies and building a platform where misinformation doesn’t stand a chance.
We just published an article about this — Read more ➢ Fake Celebrity Deaths Are Out of Control
If you’re tired of fake news, you’re in the right place. SurfSideSafe is different.
Reply by Holly Anders About 22 day(s) ago Charlie, I'm glad you posted this. I've seen news about celebrities I like who supposedly died. I always fact-check to see if this is true. When I discover that it is a lie, I am relieved, but also angy at the person who posted the lie. This should be banned from social media, and I'm Glad SurfSideSafe is trying to take a stand on this.
Reply by Mandy DiAngelo About 23 day(s) ago I'm glad Whoopi is still with us. I don't like her politics, but I like her as a actress.
Reply by Kenneth Cole About 23 day(s) ago You hit the nail right on the head. I'm tired of fake news and mis-information. Finally, someone is trying to put a stop to this BS.
Reply by Dixie Rose About 23 day(s) ago Thank you for posting this. I don't like to hear about people dying when they really die. But hearing about people dying when they have not died is just too much to take.
Reply by Deanna Owens About 23 day(s) ago I have been so upset on social media, every time I've heard about Clint Eastwood dying. Clint is one of my favorite movie stars. He has been declared dead so many times by those spreaders of mis-information that he's like a cat - He has nine lives.
Reply by Curt Chance About 23 day(s) ago I see my post got to you Charlie. I'm so tired of hearing about people dying, when they're just as alive and well as you and me.
Reply by Margie Ola About 23 day(s) ago Charlie, it's about time someone took a stand on this issue. This platform is getting better and better. This is the real deal.

I lost my mother 8 years ago. 15 years ago, I lost my wife to cancer. After my wife passed, I thought the best thing to do was sell the house we lived in and move in with my mother. My mother agreed. It was the best thing I've ever done. My mother was 84 when she passed. She had health problems, but not really life threatening. However, she was a cancer survivor. Also, my sister lived across the road. She and I used to argue about which one of us was going to do things for her, such as, take her to the doctor. We both were champing at the bit to do everything for her. But my sister always won, because she would say something like, "You don't know her medical situation like I do. The doctor might talk about technical things." Doing things for my mother was a pleasure. My sister and I were both determined that she was going to live on a velvet pillow. Whenever I did something for her, she would say, in a funny way, "I could have done that!", or, "You do too much for me!" I would always respond by saying things like, "But that's why I'm here!" or, "Why should you do it when I'm here to do it for you?" Other times, I would say to her, "Too bad! You brought this on yourself. That's what you get for being such a good mother." She loved every minute of it, and so did I. I miss her so much. If your mother or father are still here, be good to them. Go out of your way to see them as often as you can. When they leave this earth, you will be hurt, but you will have no regrets. Let me tell you, the grief is worth the good memories you have. That's a wonderful feeling. And, I feel good that I can say this about my mother, and my wife. #family#familymatters#familyisimportant
Reply by Kenneth Cole About 24 day(s) ago This broke my heart. Always stay close to your family.
Reply by Dixie Rose About 26 day(s) ago That poor man! This breaks my heart!
Reply by Jack Robbins About 26 day(s) ago I agree with you Charlie. Losing someone you love is bad, but the precious memories are wonderful. On the other hand, losing someone who treated you bad is worse, because you wish they were still here for about 5 minutes so you could tell them what a jerk they were.

Reply by Curt Chance About 1 month(s) ago I've seen some things on SurfSideSafe that I've never seen on social media before. The posts and sharing are really no different, but it's mostly the entire atmosphere. I get the feeling I've entered a "happy place". Like in most platforms, there are posts about what is going on in the world. But here, they seem to be in good taste.
Reply by Roger Duncan About 1 month(s) ago I haven't been much of a social media enthusiast during the last several years, because I've never felt safe on any platform.
