Jack Robbins About 3 month(s) ago Cary Grant was the first choice to play James Bond after starring in North by Northwest. However, due to his age, he would only commit to one film. Bond producer Albert Broccoli, a good friend of Grant's, wanted him for five movies and negotiations subsequently fell through. After a few other actors were considered, Sean Connery was eventually cast and the rest is history. Here they are together in 1957.

Reply by Margie Ola About 3 month(s) ago I remember reading somewhere that the original choice for Bond was David Niven. This was the choice made by the author Ian Fleming when he was writing the first books before any film studio began making any choices.
Reply by Jack Robbins About 3 month(s) ago Oh, I agree. Sean was the MAN.
