Daytona 500 safety

I watched the #Daytona500 and couldn't believe what I saw. There were 3 wrecks during the last 20 laps. I am so relieved that no one was seriously hurt. The Daytona 500 is probably as big as the Super Bowl, World Series and Final 4 in college basketball, but in the other 3 events, the competitors are not likely to be killed. Daytona has claimed a lot of lives of drivers. I wish something could be done to make racing safer for the drivers.

I agree with you Jack. I'm about to give away my approximate age, but here's a picture I found from the 1972 Firecracker 400 at Daytona. Those three guys are David Pearson, Richard Petty and Bobby Allison on the last lap. It seems like the drivers from the old days were much better drivers that the ones today.
